Grant Funding

We can advise on grant funding available and submit applications for your woodland on your behalf. Since May 2017, we have secured over £3 million worth of grants for our clients. Our professional, experienced approach has ensured that 100% of our grant applications have been successfully approved.

Based upon our experience, we can provide full advice regarding financing your woodland creation scheme. We provide all relevant information about our costs upfront, which form our contract with you and our budget. Upon successful award of FGS grant-funding, you will receive a formal contract from Scottish Forestry with a Schedule of Works outlining your grant payments, which you can provide to your lender.

Forestry Grant Scheme

During the SRDP 2014-2020, over £250 million has been made available through the Scottish Forestry Grant Scheme (FGS). Successful applications receive:

  • An initial planting payment – average grants are over £4000 per hectare
  • An annual maintenance payment for up to 5 further years
  • Capital item payments for operations, i.e. (planting, deer fencing and tree protection)

Woodlands in ‘Target Areas’ will receive a higher grant rate. You can also continue to claim Basic Payment on planted land within the site for 20 years.

Regional Grant Schemes

The Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN), Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park and Cairngorms National Park offer additional incentives to encourage appropriate woodland planting within these areas. These are in addition to the FGS grant.

Funding via Carbon Sequestration

Through the verified Woodland Carbon Code (WCC) and Markit Registry we can assist you to calculate, validate, market and sell the carbon to be sequestered by your woodland to those wanting to offset their carbon footprint. This is in addition to the FGS grant, and, in some cases, in addition to area-based grants.

Your scheme would need to meet strict criteria to be eligible. Carbon can be traded as Woodland Carbon Units (WCUs) or Pending Issuance Units (PIUs). We have successfully put a number of our schemes through this process and are well-placed to advise on the best way forward.
